Esparto Jr. Spartans

I met with some people from Esparto over the Thanksgiving holidays and have confirmed that Esparto is in the hunt join an established Youth Football Organization. Esparto has never had a team Jr. Program, however they definitely have the numbers to start, it may not be squads 35 or 40 deep, but would suffice NorCal Federation Rules (NCFED).

It is rumored that the Woodland Wolves will be leaving NCFED to go to a league in Sacramento, this I found out through my son, which I confirmed with a current coach of the Wolves. They want to leave because they want to be part of a program that has NO WEIGHT limits. If this is true, Esparto would be a great fit as a replacement in NCFED.

Sac-Saq. Section Finals.

Well, I sit here twelve weeks later and never thought that I would see Casa Roble, Inderkum or Del Campo eliminated from the Sac-Saq. Section finals. I thought for sure one of those teams would go all the way, but that quiet powerful league down I-80 in Solono proved me wrong. Bethel and Rodriguez came out on top and will play for the title.

Congratulations Bethel and Rodriguez, Division III Finalist for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Section.

Predictions Anyone? Hometown bragging rights on the line.

Pioneer Vs. Woodland

Natomas Vs. Inderkum

Yuba City Vs. River Valley

Who's it gonna be?

Well, here we are, two final games remain of the regular season and there are three teams who have a viable shot at making the playoffs for the number two and three seed. Inderkum will seal the number one seed this Friday and I predict will roll with ease over Natomas next week to bring home their first TCC III Crown.

At this point, its still open for the number 2 and 3 seed and I think right now it could be Woodland, River Valley or Pioneer. Pioneer has made some big changes to its defense that proved worthy against Inderkum. Woodland shut the run down against River Valley and their offense proves that they belong in this contention for playoffs. River Valley had big games this season prior to coming into the regular season, however that first loss handed down by Inderkum brought them down a notch. River Valley failed to rebound against Woodland and the Wolves capitalized on their mistakes, I have now doubt that the River Valley-Pioneer game will be exciting. I predict that Pioneer will put up good numbers on River Valley, but the Falcons will do the same and rebound from their two game losing streak.

As far as Woodland, I have to hand it to them, their running game is better than I thought. I am very confident that Woodland will come up with a big win over Natomas and they will face a hungry Patriot team; whom will be defending their civil war title. This game will be for home town bragging rights and post season play, can't ask for anymore than that. I predict that Pioneer will hold off Woodland, it will be a close score, but the Patriots will come out on top in the end.

TO EARLY FOR THIS TALK!!!

I am disappointed lately at the discussions I have heard in regards to Coach Dave Butterworth. In the Pioneer Community, I have heard numerous parents say that they feel that the direction of Pioneer is headed in the wrong way. Many parents have even went as far to say that Butterworth's contract should not be renewed. I think this talk is a little to early, we should be thinking, how can we help the coach in his time of despair. Pioneer does not have the Marguez's, the Cropley's and the Rosin's of years past. Get over it. We are in a rebuilding stage, we lost allot of great players last year, yes, we did make the Sac-Saq Section Finals against Del Campo, yes, we have had a division championship season every year of our existence and we did lose our coach. Get over it!

I know many boosters have influence over hire and fire in many programs, I don't know where the PHS Boosters stand is, but what I do know is that coaching can be political and if you don't produce a winning season, you could be gone. I just think we need to let the season come to an end, let the final game play out and then talk about this.

It does no good talk like this now, here is why, parents say things in front of their boys whom play for the coach and then they lose respect for that coach, its un-healthy to do this. Support the coach through the end and let the SCHOOL make the call. Yes, you are entitled to your opinion and you can make your voice heard, as we are a democratic society. I encourage you to do that, not bad mouth the coach in front of his boys.
